History
Seward, AK
1941
Originally constructed in 1941 as military barracks, the building which is now The Tides Inn sits on the corner of 3rd Avenue and Adams Street by St. Peter’s Episcopal church (constructed 1906). The building continued to serve as barracks throughout the second world war. Looking around the property you will see many original fixtures from the time period, including externally fixed ice boxes, pane glass windows, and original hardwood flooring in the entryways. The building is recognized on the historical register by the Seward Historical Society. Purchased by the Toloffs in 2017, the entire property has been completely renovated and brought up to modern standards, while retaining its historical charm.
Your Hosts
Pete & Jodi
We are Pete and Jodi Toloff, lifelong Alaskans. We purchased the property in 2017, and every winter since have been going through the entire building and renovating the rooms one by one. Being born and raised in Seward, Pete brings his knowledge of everything Alaska – especially local history – as well as his building talent, while Jodi is trained and gifted in the arts, gardening, decor, and real estate, helping many people achieve their dream of living and renting in Seward.
Feel free to strike up a conversation with us or our daughter and on-site manager, Allie. We’re happy to provide you with a wealth of recommendations on everything from dining to nightlife, from scenic tours to local and off-the-beaten-path hiking spots. Whatever your Alaskan dream may be, you’re in good company.
Highly recommend to families that are staying in Seward.
WWII style cottage accomodations with a great location near the shuttle stop and Alaska Sealife Center. Great coffee was close by in the morning at the quaint Resurrection Art House. Our host allowed us to drop off our luggage early once we got in from our cruise so we could go out and explore uninhibited. He gave us our keys so that we could check right in after he cleaned up after the last gues when we returned from exploring later in the day. The apartment was very clean and comfortable, with lots of room for the whole family.
Loved our stay. Will definitely be back!
We had a wonderful stay with Tides Inn. Pete and Allie were very helpful and kind. It was a great space and we were very comfortable with our two little ones in the three bedroom space. Loved the short walk downtown. Got takeout and relaxed in the room. Will be sure to come again.
